Paper Sculpture Centerpieces for The Walrus Gala

LCBO Snowflakes Paper Sculpture by Jen Spinner

Jen worked at The Walrus, a Canadian news and literary publication, as a designer during the early phase of her career. When they came to her recently to create custom centerpieces using past magazine covers, she was up for the challenge!

After some experimentation, we landed on a concept inspired by architecture and crystal formations. Jen took scans of the covers, organized them into groups that were visually mixed with texture and colours that worked in harmony. From there, the covers were printed on tabloid sheets of cardstock. Each sculpture had its own base colour that corresponded to the eventscape colour palette. When each colour was paired with a cover group, it ensured that no two sculptures were alike. There were 40+ sculptures created and they became part of the gala’s fundraising efforts as auction items. All in all, this was a lovely project to collaborate on with some old and new friends.
